Okay, maybe things aren’t going as well as you would like. You can’t see a clear path to achieving your dream and goal.

You’re in the weeds. And you don’t know which way is out or which way is right.

Telling you we’ve all been there, probably won’t make you feel any better. But I’ll take the chance that acknowledging this might help.

You’re not alone.

Weeds pop up everywhere. Weeds are a part of life’s terrain and journey. Who knows how and when they grow? There are all kinds of weeds: distractions, regret, doubt, fear, negativity, and many more. All of these weeds, including impatience, are cantankerous. Not to be confused with impatiens, the flower. They are more impatient than we are. Impatiens can’t wait to do their thing and display their beauty. And sometimes we’re no different.

But it’s not your time. How often have you heard this?

Maybe your career growth or ambition is in the weeds, but what about your spiritual growth? The two are connected, you know. Sometimes we’re so involved getting from the bottom rung to the top of the ladder that our spiritual growth wanes and suffers.

Nothing, personally or spiritually, is growing but the weeds.

This is a good time to look internally and inward. Don’t worry about the weeds right now. Trust that their season will be short. Resume and concentrate on your daily devotionals. While in the weeds, you may not know which path to take, but don’t forget about the path up.

LOOK UP!

When you don’t know north from south or east from west, you can always look up and get your bearings. I’m not referring to Polaris or the North Star.
Realize that your path out of the weeds is God. Let Him lead you out of the weeds of doubt.

Scripture reveals that the pathway to resources and help is God.

When the weeds are in the house, on your job, or more importantly, in your mind, look up. Follow Jesus, and He will lead you out. He can uproot anxieties about delayed rewards from painstaking labor. You know the “I can’t wait, if only, or when will I ever… anxieties.

Trust God and know that a delayed dream or goal is not a denied dream or goal.

But instead, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matt 6:33 KJV).

In a nutshell, seek God before goals or gold.

And never leave God out of your business. Never be too busy to pray and meditate about wants and needs, goals and dreams. God brought me through the weeds of doubt, and my second book, Sandra Bland 2.0: Racist Policing in America, is now in print.

So, work diligently and trust God that your season will be in season.

If the presence of God is a part of our present, the weeds will soon be a part of our past.
