There’s no competition between living in the country and the city. Both provide different strokes for different folks. It’s up to each of us to find and live our best life where ever we decide.

Some advantages to living in the country include: cleaner air, less noise, longer mornings, evenings, and nights.

In the summer, sitting on the front porch at night in rockers or gliders counting fireflies was a pastime. Of course, we called them lightning bugs back then.

In the fall, there was the pageantry of trees.  And the winter-scape of clean white snow made the land, trees, and houses a winter wonderland.

Neil diamond’s Sweet Caroline replaces the city’s ‘LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE’ type of excitement, snarls, and craziness. People walk, talk and drive slower in the country, but there’s much more.

The country is the school and homeroom for learning and respecting many of mother nature’s wonders.

Have you ever really noticed the lightning?

You can’t miss it in the country in the vast skyscraper-less sky. What about the thunder? Nothing talks over thunder in the country—not even my dad.

And if you’re lucky, there are pastures and cornfields to run through. Don’t forget the fruit trees: apple, pear, plum, and others to shakedown.

You can yawn on your tiptoes in the country and stretch your arms wide without crossing your neighbor’s property line. With larger plots and more acreage, children have room to play and grow. No need for privacy fences.

Neighbors are really neighbors.

You can hear the birds and bees. Have you ever chased a butterfly?

The stars and constellations are visible at night?

There’s at least 1 burger chain restaurant nearby. Greensboro has its very own McDonald’s.

There are usually dentists, a health department, and maybe 1 or more doctor offices. Since Greensboro is the county seat, it has a hospital.

But there are also plenty of disadvantages to living in the country.

There are NO BIG BOX stores like Macy’s, Belks, or Walmart. So, you have to travel a bit to buy you Sunday dresses, name-brand hosiery, large appliances, and the such.

There’s no movie theater.

Country of city living is a matter of personal preference.

I had many of the country’s amenities growing up.

Today, I prefer the city.
