What’s the name of that happy song? You’ve heard it. The one that makes you start snapping your fingers, moving your shoulders, and prancing about.

It’s perky, chipper, and insanely happy!

Yeah, It’s Don’t Worry Be Happy!

When Bobby McFerrin debuted Don’t Worry Be Happy, some people considered it to be an anthem of happiness and a great mantra to live by.

But who or what can be that happy?

Some animals have the gift of happiness.

Evie, my parakeet, must be the world’s happiest bird. She refuses to be anything but happy!

She poops, sings, chirps, dances, and chuckles to her heart’s content. Her little chatterbox and vocal chops are marvels of cheerfulness.

What bird or animal can be happier?

Unlike me, she watches CNN without squawking and cares nothing about politics. You would think she was at the Star Dome watching the Ricky Smiley Comedy Review.

I’m not claiming to know bird language. Your guess of what’s coming out of Evie’s beak is as good as mine.

Maybe she’s singing the bird’s version of the happy anthem.

Whatever the case, Evie has the happiest disposition, which does little for me when I squawk about politics or need some quiet time.

Are parakeets the happiest creatures?

For the sake of objectivity, I googled ‘the happiest animals,’ and A-Z Animals’ Top 10 Happiest Animals on Earth appeared.

According to A-Z, the bluebird is considered the bird of happiness.

Evie-girl still has no worries; she will always be my number one happy bird.

But guess what animal came out on top as A-Z’s happiest critter on the planet?

Before the grand reveal, I’m sure you’re curious about the criteria or considerations for the title of happiest creature.

Socialization and level of engagement while at play were two observable factors that A-Z Animals used along with others.

Research reveals that animals don’t only play-fight or chase to learn hunting and survival skills. Scientific studies suggest animals learn to bond, trust, reduce stress, and gain other skills.

Animals that play and chase one another aren’t envious of our hide-and-seek, ball-catching, running, and tackling games. They don’t care about keeping score or dancing under the goalposts. Their play is civil, light-hearted races without concussions, ACL tears, and other bodily injuries.

Squirrels, the GCOATs (the greatest chasers of all time), are the happiest animals on the planet!

With the squirrels, the chase is always on! There’s never the question, You Wanna Play?

Squirrels are all-terrain animals. They are masters of the running game and acrobatic maneuvers. When one leads from tree to tree with double and triple leaps, another chases nose to tail. Their ‘if you can and will, so can I’ philosophy is all about the chase and having fun.

Having fun epitomizes happiness!

I don’t know where they get all the energy, but they never tire of the chase.

We tend to envy those who enjoy life and have so much fun.

How can you envy a squirrel?

Evie has a good time in her cage, but those squirrels have an all-terrain blast!

Sometimes, animals, songs, and songwriters can teach us a thing or two about life.

Don’t worry be happy!

Be well.
