The two-word sentence, “Jesus wept,” is a Scripture or Bible verse our parents taught us early in life. As Christian believers, we learned and memorized many Bible verses while attending Sunday school and vacation Bible school.
As youngsters, we often repeated these short verses with bowed heads when reminded to say grace before eating.
There are various reasons for committing Scriptures to memory, including spiritual guidance and support.
Bible verses or God’s Word teach and remind us who God is, who we are, the path to salvation, how to handle life’s challenges, and much more.
Who are we?
Believers and servants of Christ are somebody!
In 1 John 3:1, the Apostle John states, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.” We are sons and daughters.
God’s Word reminds us who God is.
How can we forget the three words of Scripture that tell us, “God is love?” God sent Jesus, His Son, to redeem us from sin and destruction.
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus, God’s Son, is the savior of the world.
God’s Word also teaches and reminds us how to love, serve, and obey God.
Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” Matthew 22-37-39.
What is love?
Jesus says in John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
Jesus gave His life for a sinful world.
God’s Word encourages, fortifies, nourishes, and draws us closer to Him.
When friends, family, or the world are against us, it’s good to know and believe God will not forsake us.
Romans 8:31b, “If God be for us, who can be against us?
Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
People say if you worry, don’t pray. If you pray, don’t worry.
When we are weak with worry and our patience is short, don’t forget God knows we are human. He knows who are worrywarts.
David reminds us in Psalms 103:14, “For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.” In other words, God knows we are weak creatures. His mercy is eternal.
He once told Paul, “My power is made perfect in weakness.” Knowing this, Paul said he could boast about his weakness because God was always for and with him.
When we acknowledge our weaknesses, we can lean on and trust God’s strength and power to help because He loves us.
This reminds me of the children’s song, Jesus Loves Me.
Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak, but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
Children and adults are Christ’s little ones.
The following is a wonderful Scripture to set to memory. These words are among many Scriptures that can renew our hope, comfort, and peace in times of distress.
Isaiah 41:10
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
I hope you are happy and well.
