When running behind schedule, my boss would say, “We’ll make it up in the air.” As if he was a pilot, and we were passengers on Southwest Airlines. A minute is the same at 12,00 0 feet and sea level. But we’re not talking about a few minutes or hours.
Making up for months or years has nothing to do with atmospheric pressure. But everything to do with priority and passion.
Don’t you hate being behind schedule, especially on achieving your goals or dreams?
For me, it’s a big undertaking to play catch-up.
After college, writing was one of my dreams. For years, I lost sight of it.
But “better late than never.”
Maybe you also got a late start.
During the earlier years, my priorities were having a family and a successful career. I’m grateful to God that he helped me to have both.
But now I feel that I’m behind schedule because writing is no longer a dream. It’s an adventure. Yes, I’m older. I’m an empty nester and retired. And I still have family priorities and responsibilities.
But no more stalling or excuses!
The truth is we, (you and I), should no longer put off until tomorrow what we can do right now. Squeeze your dream in.
We’ve all asked, “How can I make up for lost time?”
I know I have. And yes, sometimes starting or picking up where we left off is a slow go.
Better a “slow go” than a “no go.”
Another truth—we didn’t lose time. Barring having amnesia, we know what we did last summer, last year, or several years ago.
We don’t misplace time. We misplace keys.
Chances are we misuse our time. We spend too much time on one thing and not enough time on other stuff. But we live the time, doing or not doing, miserably or happily or everywhere in between.
We need to spend time on individual goals and dreams.
Let everyone say, Amen!
Can we make up for misused time?
Running behind when traveling, we take shortcuts or speed up to get there on schedule. Arriving on time or early, we say we made up for lost time. But if we plan, begin on schedule, take shortcuts and speed up, we’ll have time to spare.
What do you do in your spare time?
To achieve our dreams, we must evaluate and re-evaluate the use of our time. There are 24 hours in a day. And we have to work within the time we have.
Some days I’m a quarterback running with the time ball. I get everything done. Touchdown! I take care of Mom, be attentive to my husband, edit chapters in my book, write a blog post. Did I mention the household chores, cooking, and cleaning?
Other days, life happens, the goalposts move several times, and I’m just running.
Whether I make a touchdown or not, time isn’t lost.
This is a certainty; the present quickly becomes the past.
Everyone has time and scheduling challenges. And I’m sure you’re no exception.
Maybe I should say, I’m trying to make up for past time instead of lost or misused time.
Whatever the case, we must stay true to our dreams.
Make changes to your schedule or day to do what you love.
I’m not only talking to you. I’m also encouraging myself.
Experience has taught me not to neglect my dreams and goals.
I don’t know if I will catch up. But I am squeezing in time for my passions.
You can do the same.
We may be late, but we are players pursuing our passions.
Stay in the game. Bee passionate about your goals.
We can do this!
