In Acts 17:29 (KJV) are these words, “We are the offspring of God.”

Wow!

Knowing this is not a small thing. And how can anyone think this is a trivial matter? These six words in the Bible are profound!

Search no longer. The root and truth of the body, spirit, and soul reside in these words.

If you want to know whose you are or who you belong to, you must start here with Acts 17:29. Knowing you are God’s creation makes you somebody! Whether we have or don’t have famous or powerful earthly parents. We were created by the “most high” and “all-powerful God.”

What else is there to say about our beginnings?

We are living souls created by God. From the dust of the ground, God made us. With the breath from his nostrils, we live. And without his breath, we die. We are neither a product of blind forces nor our own might. We are descendants from innumerable generations, to say it plainly.

It all began with the first man and woman, Adam and Eve. They were made in God’s image.

And we are the image of God, whom no man has seen.

God was at his best when he made us. Your image couldn’t be any better than what it is. An image of God is a likeness of God.

We’ve all used the phrase, “look like.” You look like your mom. You look like your dad.

Well, do we look like God?

Interestingly, “Let them have dominion…” (Genesis 1:26 KJV) follows the biblical statement about man’s image and likeness of God.

We have a likeness of God not in physical appearance but in having dominion over the earth. We are caretakers of the fish, birds, animals, land, air, and everything on earth.

God’s image in us: our mind, spirit, and soul set us apart from the animals and all earthly things that God made. Most importantly, because we are in God’s likeness, we can commune with and worship Him.

Adam named his mate, woman, and everything God created. Man’s ability to discover, create, and name things is a likeness of God.

Having “free will to make choices and decisions,” we are in the image and likeness of God.

We can believe in Christ, God’s Son, who died for our sins and was resurrected. We can serve Christ and be reconciled back to God in the forgiveness of our sins. God is the creator of all and everything.

Being God’s offspring, we have the likeness of our creator and not the creatures.

This is our beginning.
