I’ve never thought about creating my own personal mantra. But recently, when I thought about a mantra, the words GO, FIGHT, WIN popped into my head. The cheer, Go, FIGHT, Win is a mantra of sorts. Many football, basketball, and other sport enthusiasts use this fervent battle-cry and ‘get-it-done’ motivator.

Go – get out there! Get in the mix!

FIGHT- use your God-given talents. Do your best. Don’t give up!

WIN-just do it! Make it happen! Be victorious!

It’s all about the C-A-L-L, the inspiration, the dedication, and sometimes even desperation to make things happen.

Who or what calls?

Who calls you to do what you do or to be your best?

God blesses and causes us to live our lives.

But upon whom is your mantra built? Whose footsteps do you follow? Maybe you have a hero or shero.

My parents are my heroes of faith. They have the faith of their forefathers and ancestors Such a faith is a force, a mantra, that calls me to slay every challenge.

A mantra invokes and stirs one to act.

I love the National Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman’s mantra. The mantra sharpens her with the steel of purpose and excellence. The mantra refines blunt edges and is a compass to stay the due north course of success?

She is CALLED by those who went before.

“I’m the daughter of Black writers who are descended from Freedom Fighters who broke their chains and changed the world. They call me.”

What a sense of self, pride, family, tribe, present, past, and achievement evoked in just two sentences. And they call her.

Why do they call her? She is not only kindred in body but also kindred in spirit.

Amanda Goran is a change-maker and a chain breaker.

She not only changes her world but also the worlds of others.

I love it!

What chains will we break today?

What about the chains of complacency? We have the power to change our world. And we can change the world around us.

Reading Amanda’s mantra inspired me to write a mantra of my own.

I’m the daughter of Africans and Americans.

This is the tie that binds.

From my father to his great, great, great, no matter the time.

They broke their shackles and shook the world. They call me.

Write your mantra.

When the going gets tough, the affirmation in the mantra may help you stay in the game.

Amanda Gorman believes in the mantra she wrote. I believe in my mantra. I also believe in Amanda Gorman, and I believe in you.

When we ‘heave,’ inspire, and work together, movement occurs, and things change.

And together, we can change the world for the better.

Stay safe.
