We’ve heard our husbands, sons, and other males say, ‘A man gotta do what a man gotta do!’ When my husband tells me this, I just say, “Go on,” which in no way is approval. If he feels that strongly about it, there’s no stopping him—even if I disagree.
It’s a man thing.
We know well that women have a similar bravado, and it has nothing to do with testosterone.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine, they’ve had a ‘WOMAN THING ‘going on in Ukraine. ‘A woman gotta do what a woman gotta do!’
There are women taking up arms to fight alongside their husbands, brothers, sons, and friends. We’re talking about soccer moms, homemakers, office personnel, and others who have never fired an assault weapon or rifle in their lives. They are amateurs warring with Russia, a superpower, with tanks, land and aerial missiles, and bombs to spare.
To say that no one wants war but Putin is an understatement. President Putin brought the war to Ukraine, and some Ukrainian PTA moms and meemaws are in the fight.
These women fight for the freedom and liberty of their country and for the lives of their children, grandchildren, and those who cannot fight. Their sense of duty to fight is extraordinary and compelling—they feel called.
It’s not because they want to fight but because they feel they must fight. Most of them never imagined themselves in camouflage clothing and toting an assault weapon instead of a handbag.
Ukraine’s military forces fighting against Russia is a David fighting against Goliath. What can basic-combat-trained women add to Ukraine’s firepower and determination to win this war? God, the world, their families, you, and I will judge.
How patriotic! How heroic! How sacrificial! These women are no less than heroes.
Maybe they were born for such a time as this. And It’s the here and now; they are willing to spill the enemy’s blood and for theirs to be spilled.
David asked, “For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
This Philistine was Goliath
Who can forget David’s triumph over Goliath? David told the feared Philistine, “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield; but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand, and I will smite thee.” 1Samuel 17:45-46 (KJV)
And David killed Goliath, the giant, with a sling and stone.
What are the fighting Ukrainian women wondering about Putin? Perhaps, their battle thought is, “Who is this cold-blooded tyrant that he would commit genocide against God’s people of peace and love; a people who hate killing but will kill to defend their country?
This tyrant is President Vladimir Putin.
People worldwide are praying for the Ukrainians—even for a miracle to defeat Putin and his Russian army—somehow.
According to several sources, women make up approximately 10 percent of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It’s no surprise that many enlisted during and after the Russian invasion and annexation of Crimea into Moscow in 2014. But women have served in the Ukraine army since 1993.
Putin’s war is an unjustified predatory war of devastation and genocide of the people of a sovereign territory that wants no part of Russia.
When I see these brave first-time-arms-bearing women on television and read about them in news articles, I pray even more and fervently for them and Ukraine.
There’s nothing profound or inspiring I can say to and about these women that’s greater than the force that drives them to love and be willing to fight and die for their devotion.
May God bless and protect all those fighting for Ukraine.
May God bless these brave women!
Make God bless the U.S. to help Ukraine.
Be safe.
