According to several sources, most Ukrainians are Christians, primarily Orthodox Christians. And they consider Easter to be the most important of the Church’s holidays, festivals, or celebrations.

Ukraine’s Easter holiday is called the ‘The Great Day.’

And what a glorious day it is!

Easter is the celebration of the resurrected Christ, the Savior of the world who was crucified and rose from the dead to save sinners.

During the 2022 renewal and resurrection celebration season, my prayer for the Ukrainians is that God’s strengthening comfort will abide with them. And may God, who is “The Father of compassion and the God of all comfort” abide with us all. (2 Corinthians 1: 3 KJV)

My heart goes out to the Ukrainians for the cross they’re had to bear since February 24, now during the Easter season, and only God knows how much longer. I thank God for the bravery of the men and women fighting and fleeing for their lives and freedom.

During this season of celebrating Christ as the resurrected Savior of the world, I pray that they keep the faith in Christ Jesus, the only power that can keep us all according to His will.

I’ve seen the dreadful pictures on television, but the still images of death and devastation don’t sufficiently portray the horror lived, and agony suffered.

During peace and war, we remind ourselves about the price Jesus paid for our salvation, the source of everlasting comfort for us all.

Christ’s Passion and victory over death are comforts for believers who trust Him during all seasons of life, including the seasons of trouble and tribulations.

When do Ukrainians observe Easter?

Ukraine’s religious ceremonies and holidays follow the Julian Calendar and are dates that the Orthodox Christian Church sets. The Julian holiday dates are frequently different from the celebrations based on the Gregorian Calendar used by the Catholic and Western churches.

Catholic and Orthodox Easter observances can fall on the same day or be as much apart as a month because of the two different calendars.

Easter is a moving holiday that generally occurs on the first full moon after the equinox for Ukrainians. But if the equinox is on a Sunday, they celebrate Easter a week later to avoid it coinciding with the Passover. The Passover is a week before Easter.

Easter for the Catholic and the Western churches will be April 17 this year. Ukraine will observe the holiday on April 24, a national public holiday that includes the Monday after.

And yes, Easter baskets and painted eggs are delights for children and adults alike in Ukraine.

How will Ukrainians celebrate Easter in 2022?

During peace or war, we rejoice in the risen Savior.

Roman 8: 35 (KJV) says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Hallelujah! Christ is risen indeed!

Have a blessed Easter!

And let’s continue to pray for peace.

Be safe.
