Do you believe it; next Sunday, December 25, will be Christmas? Like me, many people are excited but shocked that Christmas is around the corner.
Where did 2022 go? Did Christmas sneak up on us?
I know; it feels that way. We have to be more mindful of time, which brings me to the reason for this post.
Let’s be more mindful and remember the reason for the Christmas season.
How many times will you hear these six words, ‘remember the reason for the season,’ before December 25?
Perhaps more than you care to, or you can count on two hands and feet.
Believe it or not, it’s not enough. These six words cannot be overstated. Use Sticky notes, write them on your count-down-to-Christmas calendar and imprint the words on your brain.
Remember: Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season.
The hustle and bustle of Christmas are on! It’s a mad race to the finish! We become human versions of Flash Gordon with hands like Plastic Man or Mrs. Incredible, grabbing presents from here and there for friends and loved ones.
Credit cards suddenly have stretching properties. We’ve got to get gifts for the children, grandchildren, mothers, grandmothers, cousins, nieces, friends, and spouses.
Breathe!
Don’t forget about Sparky, Tweety Pie, and Ronnie the gerbil; they’re a part of the family too.
Hold up! Don’t forget – JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON.
Without Christ, there is no Christmas.
One can easily forget to thank God for His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, on the very day that we celebrate. Christ is worthy of the honor and praise on December 25 and every day before and after. But He didn’t ask for a birthday celebration.
And what present will we give Christ?
We can present Him as a present to those who don’t know Him when and where the opportunity presents itself. Christ is the most precious present anyone can receive at any time of the year.
So, it’s good to slow down and moderate one’s pace to be in tune with the gift He has given us during this blessed celebratory season.
In the book of Job 37:14 (KJV), Elihu told Job, “Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.” At this time, Job needed and sought God’s renewal and relief physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Prayerfully our circumstances are much different from Job’s problems and trials, but whatever our situation, “the wondrous works of God” are forever before us.
The wondrous works of God include His creation: the earth, universe, stars, sun, lightning, thunder, snow, and rain. All creation is His work.
But don’t forget, God’s wonderous works also include His only begotten Son, the savior of the world. And Christ, God’s gift to all, wants all to believe in Him for salvation.
Christmas, the celebration of Christ’s birth, is a great time to stand still and honor Christ for who He is in our earthly lives and our hope for eternal life.
Merry Christmas!
Be well.
