It’s not unusual for mothers to tell rambunctious children to be quiet or for teachers to signal silence by placing their pointer finger on closed lips. Sometimes compliance requires forewarnings of punishments like time out. Kids don’t like seclusion, but as adults, it has advantages when trying to find a quiet place and quiet time.

There’s a time for every season and everything, work and play but also to spend time with a quiet mind in a quiet place.

Technically, there’s not a quiet place in my house.

What about your house?

Where can seclusion and quietness be found? I don’t know which is more challenging, finding a quiet place or quieting my mind.

It should be pretty quiet on the moon, right? But not on planet Earth!

The constant waves of noise are everywhere: people talking, televisions blaring, phones ringing, and air conditioners roaring, to name a few. What about the whine, click, whistle, hum, and buzz of electrical devices?

Don’t misunderstand; I need the stuff I mentioned, but I also need a little quiet time to talk to God every once in a while.

I turned off the television for the sanctity of silence the other day, and my husband frowned, grabbed the remote, and reconnected the noise continuum. The eyewitness news and he said, she said repetitions resumed.

There’s no safe harbor from noise infiltrations anywhere, don’t you agree?

And outside, there are the rumbling, heaving, and toiling of 18-wheelers, the throbbing booms of loudspeakers. The force and impacts of this noisy world, the squealing sirens, honks, and industrial noise pollution, are exhausting and mentally challenging.

So far, I’ve just mentioned external noises; what about internal or mental noises that cause fatigue, misgivings, anxiety, and fear? I’m talking about the quarreling quakes, saber rattlers, and inhumane accounts of people disregarding God, family, country, and human life.

Some folks want to blow up the world!

Peace be still!

In our quiet place and quiet time, God reminds us, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Be still – Be not fearful; God has not lost control of the world.

Be still – Be assured and comforted, for He is God, and the world belongs to Him.

Be still – God takes care of you during storms as he does during the sunshine.

Why Do We Seek God in Our Quiet Place and Time?

Jesus is our perfect example of asking for God’s help. He went to the Garden of Gethsemane, His quiet place, to quiet His mind, pray, and communicate with God about His destiny and mission to die for our sins on Calvary’s cross.

Today we can find our quiet place and time to pray to Jesus, God’s only begotten and the savior of the world. It’s our personal, one-on-one time with God. Believers ask Him for the forgiveness of sins, and they praise Him for His goodness and mercies. Believers pray for guidance, renewed strength, and more faith to do His will in dealing with the things they cannot change and the things within their control.

Communicating with God isn’t a one-way communication. We don’t just show, tell, plead, and end the conversation. We also listen for guidance and insight. God imparts wisdom and understanding to those who need help and love and obey Him. Have faith that the answers will come and the problems will be resolved however the form or time.

How God Speaks to Believers

The Holy Spirit brings to remembrance God’s word, the good seed sown in our hearts. God’s word directs believers to be doers of His word and not hearers only: to judge no one, be merciful, forgiving, and loving to everyone, even enemies.

Reading the Scriptures, God’s Holy Word, bring insight and revelations that help believers overcome problems, be inspirational, and speak encouraging words to others.

We can all find a quiet place to quiet our minds and do as 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting [Cast] all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

We have a standing appointment; it’s our one-on-one quiet time with God.

Be well.
