There are some things I dare to say, “You can’t pay me to do that!” I say this, believing ‘nothing is impossible.’ But unless the ability is God-given, I am emphatic about some things that I refuse to try or do.

I know this: I’m not going to break my neck, leg, arm, or heart trying to become another Simone Biles. And this is not a defeatist attitude.

Whether it’s fortunate or not, there’s only one Simone Biles.

Fortunate or not, there’s also only one Betty Smith. And I’m undefeated in becoming the best I can be, which cannot be measured by society or compared to someone else’s achievements.

Who doesn’t want to be a GOAT, not of the bleating sort, but The Greatest of All Time, in their talent, ambition, or specific endeavor?

The term G.O.A.T or GOAT denotes the best in a specific category of sports, music, and many other skills or crafts.

Simone Biles is the greatest gymnast ever!

But don’t forget Jesus challenges everyone to be great in service. Are there any servant GOATS?

No two GOATs are alike, but being the greatest doesn’t lack some subjective judgments. For example, Muhammad Ali doesn’t have the greatest win-loss record in boxing, but many consider him to be the greatest boxer of all time. His passion, boxing style, swagger, and many impacts on boxing made him unforgettable and a one-of-a-kind standout.

The question is, can everyone become a GOAT in some aspect of their lives?

There are GOATS in every competitive sport: football, basketball, tennis, you name it. The Super Bowl, US Open, Golf Masters, and other acclaimed and must-see sports feature their GOATs.

GOATS are extreme winners. But don’t let society or the competitive realm of numerous ambitious pursuits fool you. In addition to sports, musicians, singers, and other GOAT categories, what about the everyday unacclaimed GOATs in life?

The Bible says, we have gifts “Differing according to the grace that is given…according to the proportion of faith.” These God-given gifts and measures of spiritual, intellectual, and physical abilities help us to do and become our best in life, whatever the servitude. These aptitudes or natural abilities can become skills and par for becoming our best.

What mother doesn’t want to be the best mother ever? What Christian doesn’t want to do their best in service?

You can become your best without competitive rankings and recognition.

An attitude of doing one’s best in whatever venture is an attitude of excellence regardless of any rewards or recognition from peers or the public.

I remember this young man in our church who had a speech impediment but, with zeal, testified of God’s goodness through public prayer. He did his best!

Your personal best is your record without any comparison to others.

There’s greatness in us all when we live up to our God-given potential according to the measure of ability and faith God gives us.

Jesus said, “The greatest among you will be your servant.” Matthew 23:11 (NIV)

Be well.
