When asked who they are, many people provide the following information: their name, alma mater, employer, profession, marital status, and any parental information.
If you were to change the question to:” Do you know who you are”? The question would prompt a different response. Some might answer without hesitation, “Yes! I know who I am. Others may include, “I’m a child of God.”
Who are you?
Some believers would add that they are someone God knows completely.
In fact, God, our creator, knows us better than we know ourselves. Neither our parents, friends, nor other loved ones know us as well as God.
Christians believe that to know God is the only way to know who we are and the purpose of our existence. If we know our purpose, which is tied to our creator, we will know who we are.
Only God can reveal to us who we are and our purpose.
Intelligence and human knowledge won’t enable an individual to know themselves and their purpose. Self-knowledge of God’s plan for us escapes us and is not revealed in our mortal DNA because our purpose extends beyond our physical bodies.
The God who knows us is the God we can know and trust. God wants everyone to know Him and know themselves. Our life or existence depends on his goodness and mercy. Being of little knowledge and fewer resources, we boast of much.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NIV) says, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the LORD.”
Knowing God is the beginning of wisdom and knowing who we are.
Knowing God is believing in Christ, the Savior of the world.
Knowing God and His Son, who died and was resurrected, enables Christians to glorify Christ rather than themselves.
What’s our purpose?
Isaiah 43:7 (NIV) says, “Everyone that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”
Who are we?
We are God’s creatures who are created to live a holy life and glorify Him by loving Him with all of our souls, strength, and might.
Who are we?
For those who love, obey, and praise God:
We are the sheep in God’s pasture.
Why were we created?
We were created to know God.
We were created to love God.
We were created to serve God.
We were created to glorify God.
We were created for a God-purposed life.
Psalm 165:11 (NIV) says, “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
God reveals who we are and the path of service and eternal life with Him.
God is ready to reveal who we are and our purpose to those who will know, love, and glorify Him.
To discover who we are, we must know God and Christ as our personal savior.
I hope you are happy and well.
