As it has been from Jesus’ birth, every year, including twenty-twenty-six, is the year of our Lord.
Nonetheless, some believe 2026 is the year of the Horse.
I wouldn’t ordinarily know this, but I overheard someone talking about it.
Well, inquiring minds want to know more about the year of the Horse.
One of the Chinese sayings about horses includes, “Success arrives like a horse.”
What an intriguing saying!
The Horse is one of the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac, used to represent certain character traits and fortunes based on an individual’s birth year. The other 11 zodiac animals include the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
Some of the appealing Zodiac traits of the Horse include independence, being steady, and being easygoing. Some not-so-positive traits include being outspoken, inflexible, and extravagant.
Curious to know your animal sign and traits?
The Chinese use the lunar calendar, and unlike our New Year, their New Year date varies. The Chinese New Year falls on a day in January or February. Finding the signs for January and February births isn’t as easy as those for the birth months of March through December.
I don’t buy into the Chinese, Western, Celtic, or any of the astrological zodiacs, although I may occasionally peruse one out of curiosity.
I choose not to rely on folklore or on the study and interpretations of the strengths and associations of the stars, sun, moon, and planets relative to one’s character.
A horse is a magnificent animal, without any mystical lore or associations with the Chinese or the Eastern Zodiac.
Horses have shaped cultures and civilizations worldwide, including ours.
We often use the familiar sayings, as swift as a horse and as strong as a horse.
One doesn’t have to go far to see domesticated and even wild horses in America and many other countries.
It’s common to see horses in western movies, grazing in the countryside, in races like the Kentucky Derby, and many other places, including horse farms.
Horses are such an essential part of our way of life that we created and associated specific terms with their power and capabilities.
What about the term horsepower as a measurement of endurance and strength?
During the Industrial Revolution, the output of engines or motors replaced horse-powered locomotion. The power of steam and other engines became the new horsepower, the rate at which work is done.
Horses are symbols of not only strength and power but also grace and majesty. The Bible speaks about horses in various stories as symbols of strength and endurance.
These beasts of burden are well spoken of for their swiftness and strength in ancient battles.
In these verses, the horse’s power is sure but limited.
Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.”
Horses were the symbol of the power and might of captains, kings, and armies. A mighty warrior or soldier rode and went to battle on a great horse.
Psalm 33:17 states, “The horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength, it cannot save.”
Some choose to believe 2026 is the year of the Horse. I believe 2026 is the year of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who represents and is the origin of all the good, possibilities, and success that is within us.
I hope you are happy and well.
