Everyone knows that houses are indoor staycations for uninvited creepy crawlers. Many of us pay pest control companies good money to get rid of these unsightly flying, running, and crawling insects.

What if someone told you not to call Orkin, Terminix, or any other pest control company?

Pay no money; you may already have free pest control!

Let a few of the in-house insects do the job.

Tell the grandkids the same do’s and don’ts, like stay out of the refrigerator, and don’t skate on and scuff up the hardwood floors.

Add these don’ts: no squashing the cellar spiders or daddy longlegs! No plucking the wings off the ladybugs, and leave the house centipedes alone!

If the kids are mischievous, call their parents to pick them up early. Let the ladybugs, centipedes, and cellar spiders stay; they won’t hurt you or the hardwood floors. They won’t go into the refrigerator; they hate being cold!

Before telling the grandkids the new don’ts, one must understand the value of some of the indoor critters and resist the urge to squash them.

The question is, can you do it?

Can you let some of the creepiest creepy crawlers live in your house to control or get rid of other pests?

Don’t grab the broom, a shoe, get the insect spray, or risk falling while trying to stomp and kill an insect.

Let the ladybugs, daddy longlegs, and house centipedes scurry and roam the house seeking what they will devour.

You can save some bucks!

Who can beat free, twenty-four-hour pest control?

Ladybugs do your job!

Cellar spiders do your job!

House centipedes do your job!

Ladybugs can keep house plants free of aphids; those sap suckers are plant killers! Those aphids don’t have a chance against these cute little polka-dot beetles. Ladybugs also eat mealybugs, whiteflies, spider mites, and other pestier pests.

Plus, their bright red shells brighten up the décor in any flowerpot!

If you see a ladybug or two, or more, thank them! Most ladybugs are harmless to people and pets.

I must admit this natural pest-control method may work for some, but not for me.

I may be able to befriend one ladybug, but a house centipede is a pest of a different color with too many legs.

Anything with that many legs gives me the heebie-jeebies! They may be handy for catching and eating cockroaches, but I’m not laying a hand on them, only my foot.

They are higher up the food chain than spiders, silverfish, termites, bed bugs, and other small pests. Their venomous fangs help them subdue their prey.

House centipedes are ‘basically harmless to humans.’ That only means they won’t be in my house!

What about cellar spiders?

You and I both know that daddy longlegs are found in places other than cellars. I spotted one suspended upside down in my doctor’s office. Besides basements and other dark places, they like to hang out in the corner of any room in the house.

Other than permitting ladybugs as a house guest for a few days, I’m not advocating for any other creepy crawler as a natural pest control.

Thank goodness for pest control companies! For the insects they don’t get, I’m their huckleberry!

My house is not a staycation for any creepy crawler I can take out with a broom, shoe, insect spray, or my foot.

I hope that you are happy and well.
