Sometimes I want to say, “Me, Me, Me, Me, Me.”

As a wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter, much of the time, it’s about everyone else’s needs and cares.

Do you ever feel that you should be doing something else at a given moment? There’s a smoldering desire to steal away.

James Brown said it best, and “DO YOUR THING!”

Perhaps you were washing a load of clothes, cleaning out the closet, or picking up grocery items for dinner at Walmart; what do you do?

Sometimes I’ll watch Star Trek reruns with my husband. Suddenly, I feel a call to feed and stroke my passion for writing.

Your spouse and others won’t always understand the need to answer when your passion calls.

“Can’t you do that later?” They ask.

Chalk it up to human nature. They understand their zeal but not yours.

Sometimes we can’t put our passion on a schedule.

I’m retired. I have spoken of my passion as a J-O-B, but only in the sense that it enriches me. I enjoy the work. And it is work.

My grands ask, “Mia, what do you do?”

When I’m not helping my 94-year-old mother, catering to my retired husband, doing ‘woman’s work,’ I’m enriching me.

Yes, you owe it to yourself to pull away and be attentive to what’s calling your name. Just as fire needs oxygen, only you can provide the fire necessary for your passions and dreams.

If you have a passion to write, read, sketch, paint, or perform any other talent or dream, it summons you to be fed.

How do I feed my passion?

I sign-on to my computer and type the dictation that spills from the voice within that calls me. I keep pad and paper on my nightstand. Jumping out of bed to write and safeguard a thought or idea can happen at any time.

Oprah Winfrey said, “Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”

Feed your passion.

Stay Safe.
