What smells like morning five days a week and on the weekends?

The answer is coffee for many early risers, afternoon and evening cup-bearers, and other caffeine-dependent enthusiasts. No one has to tell a coffee drinker to SMELL THE COFFEE after waking up.

Who doesn’t love the smell of a cup of hot Joe any time of the day?

Like many foods and drinks, the free-wafting aroma of coffee precedes its good taste and flavor.

Some people say coffee doesn’t taste the way it smells, but I say to each his own tastebuds and nose. There’s no doubt, Star Bucks, the world’s coffee shop, has a flavor just for you.

People also say the nose knows, but so does science.

Science has revealed that coffee includes the molecules for many appealing scents that are sweet, fruity, floral, spicy, and some not-so-alluring odors like rotten cabbage.

Then again, people who love coffee don’t care a bean about the science of it.

Coffee is a fruit, not a bean. Everyone says coffee beans, but the beans are actually pits inside the fruit, which looks like a cherry.

Bean, berry, cherry, fruit, who cares!

People not only love the taste of coffee but also its smell. Even many non-coffee drinkers like the smell of freshly brewed and instant coffee. Those who prefer the scent but not the taste can purchase coffee-scented air fresheners, mild, dark roasted, and other scented options.

Did you know that coffee can reset your sense of smell, which is also called clearing the palate?

Perfumers, professional perfume testers, whiff coffee beans to clear their palates when sniffing perfumes. You can imagine perfume sniffing is like wine tasting; the tester needs a reset to normal to distinguish each fragrance or taste.

Many upscale perfume stores may have coffee beans in jars to assist their clients and customers who want to whiff or try different perfumes. Maybe you’ve noticed these jars of coffee beans in the stores.

Testing various fragrances can fatigue and overwhelm the sense of smell, just as smoke does the sense of sight. The coffee odor flushes the olfactory senses, the control system for the sense of smell.

The saying the nose knows may not be the case if the nose is blind or confused due to too many scents at one time. When there are too many scents, individual odors are diluted or can be indistinguishable. Too many scents can desensitize noses or cause nose blinding.

Coffee isn’t the only thing that can air out the sense of smell. Lemons, oranges, limes, and other strong scents can do the same.

Coffee is a quick pick-me-up or energy source for many people, but it also soothes and calms others. My coffee intake is minuscule in amount and strength compared to the average American coffee drinker. I drink coffee because of its calming effects.

Look for those jars of coffee beans in your favorite perfume store.
